Prof. Dr. Herbert W. Franke
is a pioneer of electronic and computer art,
co-founder of the ARS ELECTRONICA in Linz (Austria) in 1979,
and author.

Artistic curriculum vitae:

Born 1927 in Vienna, Austria.
1945 - 1951 studies at the University of Vienna: physics, mathematics, philosophy.
Change to Germany - five years activities in the industry, later free lanced.

1956 electronic graphics, begin of occupation with rational aesthetics and experimental photography,
1969 computer art.
Participation on more then 200 exhibitions.

Lecturer for cybernetic aesthetics and computer art on the University in Munich (1973 - 1998),
and on the Academy for Fine Arts in Munich (1984 - 1998).
2008 Senior Fellow by 'Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin' (ZIB).

More than 40 books, especially about art-science-connections,
also science fiction novels.

Herbert W. Franke passed away on 16 July 2022 at the age of 95.
